I WAS SORT OF HOPING FOR A ROUSING CHORUS OF "DON'T QUIT, CLAIRE"

Remind me not to take my readers into a foxhole with me.

Anyway, Jesse, since you did take the time to say something encouraging, I am going to drag myself to class tonight just to let you know your effort wasn't wasted, even though honestly, I would prefer to remove my own appendix with a pair of pruning shears. I'm dragging my ass out there purely to express the principle, "I don't quit and I'm not a wuss."

That, and my mother seemed quite pleased by the idea of my giving the whole business up. I am not too old to be above the idea that if something seems to discomfit my mother, it must be fun.

  1. I quit Aikido because my skill level had improved enough that the drills were moving faster, and yet I didn't have the skill to keep myself safe at that speed. It could be that your subconscious is telling you something.

You might be interested in taking up an internal Chinese martial art. I currently study one of them and find it to be a constant source of internal growth. (For example, I had no idea I was carrying around that much tension). I haven't decided yet if it will be of any use in a physical conflict, but then, I have only been studying four years.

The difficulty is finding a good teacher.

  2. Have you thought of knitting? It exercises your fingers! And you could combine it with yoga - holding a pose and knitting at the same time....VERY relaxing probably....
